Sundial Resort Serious about Patriotism

DATE: May 22, 2014

This week I decided to keep it simple. Until recently, I didn’t know that Sundial’s General Manager and Director of Food & Beverage were both veterans. In addition, two others in their engineering and safety departments have also served! I just want to say thank you to them for their service and thank you to all who have served and the families that serve at home.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Sundial Beach Resort Serious About Patriotism

Sanibel Island, FL – May 21, 2014 Sundial Beach Resort & Spa (www.sundialresort.com) is serious about its U.S. patriotism. So much so that the resort has scheduled official Flag Raising ceremonies at 8 a.m. on Memorial Day, Flag Day and July 4, accompanied by a musical tribute from attendees. A costumed Uncle Sam will share in the festivities.

According to Bob Kramm, General Manager of the resort and an Air Force veteran, “All resort staff, management, guests and Island visitors are invited to meet at our flag pole in front of the resort.  We will have a brief meet and greet with those assembled, present attending veterans with a flag pin to honor their service, share a moment of silence and then our Safety and Engineering Department will raise the Florida and U.S. flag according to standard military protocol.”

As the flags are raised, the group will sing America, The Beautiful with Kramm conducting the ceremony. Song lyrics will be provided. Bottled waters, coffee service and pastries will be available and a costumed Uncle Sam – in patriotic bathing trunks – will be present on Memorial Day, Flag Day and July 4th, walking the property, waving and shaking hands and distributing flag pins to veterans, visitors and guests.

But the patriotism will extend beyond the Flag Raising event. All employees will wear flag ribbon pins on these holidays and housekeeping will place an American flag in each occupied room over Memorial Day and July 4th weekends and on Flag Day. Resort guests who are veterans will be given a thank you note for their service, along with food vouchers for use during their holiday vacation plus an invitation to the Flag Raising Ceremony. Guest messages will be broadcast as reminders.Special patriotic activities will be scheduled for guests during these holiday weekends.

Rounding out the festivities, on Memorial Day weekend there will be live entertainment at the Pool & Beach Bar from 2-5 p.m. with Happy Hour celebrated from 3-5 p.m. In Sea Breeze Café, Happy Hour is from 3-5 p.m. and the Danny Morgan Band performs from 7-10 p.m.  Mermaids will grace the Resort pool on Saturday and Sunday from 2-5 p.m., wearing a special patriotic crown or chapeau. An All-American Poolside Cookout is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 from 1-4 p.m. with an all-you-can-eat poolside buffet set at the same time on June 14 and July 5.

Last year Sundial Beach Resort & Spa was named the Best Full Service Resort on Sanibel and Captiva Islands in the annual Best of the Islands competition based on votes from readers of The Islander newspaper. Food and Beverage outlets include Waterview for casual, island dining, Sea Breeze Café featuring al fresco dining and The Beach & Pool Bar. For additional information, visit SundialResort.com.
