Sundial Beach Resort & Spa Helps Sponsor the 10K Race 4 FISH

DATE: September 14, 2015

Hundreds of runners are expected to don their track shoes to attend the 7th annual 10K Race 4 FISH Oct. 17. But this race – as the others in the past – isn’t merely about athletic competition or the desire to test individual physical endurance.

The 10K Race 4 FISH is about something more, something deeper, something profound. It’s about helping others less fortunate to elevate themselves; this is about providing that metaphorical hand up.

And we at Sundial Beach Resort & Spa are expressing our support for this noble effort by becoming a gold sponsor of the race.

“We are grateful for the support Sundial Beach Resort & Spa gives to its community,” FISH board vice chairman Ed Ridlehoover told the area’s local weekly newspaper, The Island Sun.

The organization works to “to make a social investment in our community that assists our neighbors to live independently and with dignity in their homes,” according to www.fishofsancap.org.

Eight Sundial Beach Resort & Spa employees plan to participate in the race: Joe Knapp, Banquet Manager; Erica Cossairt, Director of Tennis; Marina Bloetz, Assistant Director of Services; Tiffany Onischuk, Catering Sales Manager; Emily Frost, Owner Services Coordinator; Paul Cuppy, Director of Food & Beverage; Claude Gourzong, Activities Manager; and Christian Buttz, Activities. A team of Sundial Beach Resort & Spa employees will also help during the race along the course. Come, have fun and show your support for the participants.

As a designated United Way House, FISH helped 1,737 Lee County residents (1,317 households) last year. Eighty-six percent of FISH’s 2014 budget went to providing assistance.

FISH programs have directly helped 386 senior households with services that include: Alzheimer’s assessment, daily well-check calls, daily prepared meals, emergency financial assistance, food pantry, “Friendly Faces” luncheons, healthcare assistance, hurricane preparations, medical equipment loan service, non-emergency medical-related appointment transportation, visitations and workshops.

FISH programs have also helped children with backpack programs, emergency financial assistance, youth lunches and youth scholarships. More than 900 households have received help from FISH programs. FISH volunteers have logged 6,598 hours in helping people and drove nearly 29,000 miles on clients’ behalf.

“We recognize and support the valuable programs FISH administers within the Sanibel-Captiva community and appreciate their mission to provide ‘helping hands’ to those who live, work and visit the islands,” General Manager Phillip Starling told The Island Sun. Sundial Beach Resort & Spa has been awarded Best Full-Service Resort for three years in a row.
