What To Do This Week Around Sanibel Island

DATE: July 17, 2013

Now that summer is halfway over, my kids have officially entered the “I’m bored” phase. It’s that phase kids go through when the euphoria of newly found freedom from school has waned and the panic that school is fast approaching has yet to set in. In my house, this phase lasts approximately 2-3 weeks.

Some years we choose this time to take a vacation, allowing us to mix it up enough to relieve that feeling of boredom. Sadly, this year we are not going out of town so I must be more creative.

I am eternally grateful for Sundial this summer because of their wide variety of activities available.. Being able to keep play-time fresh every time we’re there always keeps the kids from tiring of a day at the resort.

Since we have just entered the “I’m bored” phase, I decided to find out what’s going on over the next week that’s a little different to force the kids out of their rut and entertain the whole family. Here’s what I found:

  • Jersey Girls: July 17-20 at the Herb Strauss Theater on Sanibel. Tonight we might be going to see the premiere of this new BIG Arts show. It’s about a singing competition in 1960’s New Jersey and each night the audience will decide the winner! My kids love the idea that they can have a hand in a play’s ending.
  • PBR Touring Pro Division Rodeo: July 19 at the Germain Arena in Estero. They say that bull riding is the most exciting 8-second experience. At the rodeo we’ll be leaving the excitement to the professionals and happily enjoying our view from the stands!
  • Repticon Reptile and Exotic Animal Convention: July 20-21 at Araba Shrine in Ft. Myers. As I’ve mentioned before, my son is BIG into reptiles and all things creepy crawly. I’m going to make this a surprise outing and I’m pretty sure he’s going to go nuts when he finds out he gets to spend the whole day with lizards, snakes, amphibians, tarantulas and too many other creatures to count.

Hopefully you and your family can enjoy some of these events as well or use them as inspiration to find fun things to do in your area!
